Sunday School Events - 2013-14

Beetle Drive

A Beetle Drive organised by the Sunday School was held in the Warnock Hall on Wednesday 30th October 2013. This was a very successful fun night, which ws thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. A special "thank you" to everyone who helped on the night, and to those who donated raffle prizes and pastries for the supper.

We were delighted to present a cheque for £200 to a representative of Southern Area Hospice Services on the night. This donation was made possible by the money raised from our Sponsored Walk and Barbecue in June 2013.

Tea Party

Many thanks to all who attended our Alice in Wonderland Tea Party on Saturday 9th November. Sophie did a great job decorating the hall and table setting the scene for a truly wonderful afternoon. Everyone who attended had a lovely time enjoying the many delights on the cake stands from fifteens to cupcakes and top hats to meringues! The children looked amazing in their fancy dress outfits with a couple of princesses, a pirate and Alice herself making an appearance! Thanks to everyone who helped out or made a donation; it will go a long way to achieving our goal of two gifts from the Oxfam Unwrapped website, changing lives of less fortunate people around the world.

Here are some photographs from the Tea Party:

Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Appeal

Thanks to all who participated in our Shoebox Appeal in November. Fifteen filled boxes were delivered to the collection centre in Bessbrook for distribution to children in need in Swaziland. This will probably be the only present or items they will get this Christmas, so thank you to all who have put a smile on these childrens' faces this Christmas.

Christmas Coffee Morning & Carol Service

Just a short note of thanks from the Sunday School to everyone for all your support for our Christmas Coffee Morning. It was great to see such a good turnout and we hope you all enjoyed the chance to relax with friends. We would also like to thank you for your very generous donations of £155.00 for Sunday School Funds which is greatly appreciated and will be put to very good use! We would also like to thank some of the ladies of the Church who helped out in the kitchen.

We would also like to say a big thank you to the children for all their efforts at the Carol Service. I'm sure everyone would agree they did an excellent job and looked amazing in their Nativity outfits! And we would also like to say a big thank you to Santa for making a special appearance and giving Selection Boxes to all the children.

Christmas Outing

On Saturday 25th January the Sunday School enjoyed their annual trip to Newry Town Hall to see the pantomime, which this year was The Wizard of Oz. It was a great presentation by all the cast and everyone attending greatly enjoyed the performance. This is the 8th year we have had this successful outing and hopefully it will continue for many years. The children also enjoyed Goody Bags, provided by the Sunday School, as they watched the performance. Thanks to the parents who also attended and who also greatly enjoyed the performance.

Annual Sunday School Competitions

Work for the competitions was taken to our Ballyclare Church on Sunday, 1st June, for the Convention on Friday, 6th June. In total approximately 16 pieces of work were entered by individuals and groups. We attained two first prizes, one third prize and the James Meneely Award for the best Arts and Crafts entry.

Children's Day and Prizegiving

We held our annual Childrenís Day Service on Sunday, 15th June. We had a great turnout of family members who heard the children retell the story of The Creation through singing, readings and prayers, with Jake taking over the role of Minister. As it was also Fatherís Day, Abbey read a poem entitled 'What Makes A Dad'.

Hymns sung by the entire congregation were 'Heís Got the Whole Wide World in His Hands', 'Morning has Broken, For the Beauty of the Earth', 'How Deep the Fatherís Love for Us', 'All Things Bright and Beautiful', 'One More Step Along the World I Go' and the children sang 'If Youíre Happy and You Know It'. We heard readings from Joshua, Daniel, Lucy, Olivia, Alex W. and Abbey and prayers from Lucy, Georgia, Olivia, Joshua and Jake.

During the service we also had our all-important prizegiving. Shields were given to the best pupil in each class, Sunday School Competition prizes were then awarded and attendance money was also presented. We then awarded our special cups, with the Isobel Wylie Cup for attendance going to Georgia McMurray who had full attendance this year. The Kenneth McClure Memorial Cup and Presentation Bible were awarded to Jake McMurray and the Rainey Prize was awarded jointly to Katie and Jay McWilliams.

Sponsored Walk and Barbecue

Sunday School held their annual Sponsored Walk and BBQ in Gosford Forest Park on Saturday 21st June. The weather was fantastic and after our walk of the Castle Trail, which some people did twice, we enjoyed excellently cooked burgers and sausages. The children then played games and football. Our event was well supported by children and adults and we would like to thank everyone who participated and donated, and especially those who helped out with the BBQ. The children of the Sunday School had a fun and enjoyable day out together before we all take a break for the summer. We would also like to thank the Management of Gosford Forest Park for kindly allowing us the use of the facilities in the park. All money raised will be split between Sunday School Funds and Southern Area Hospice.

The first commandment is this: "Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God is one Lord, and you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength." The second is this: "You must love your neighbour as yourself." No other commandment is greater than these.

Mark 12:29-31

Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
